Introduces the physical science behind the processes and materials involved in the creation of the earth's crust and its soil. Topics include minerals, rock types, weathering, erosion, soil characterization, perturbation, mapping, horizonation, and soil classification. May be used to meet the Core Curriculum options.

GSCI 113 : Earth Science
Introduces topics in geology, meteorology, and astronomy. Geology topics include rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, building and shaping of Earth’s surfaces, and geologic dating. Astronomy topics include the Universe, components of Earth’s solar system, and the effects of Earth’s movement in space. Meteorology topics include Earth’s atmosphere, weather and climate, and Earth’s water structures and cycles. Three lecture hours (3 credits) or three lecture hours with 2 hours of lab per week (additional 1 credit for lab). May be used to meet the Core Curriculum.
