Recording Technology Certificate (Online)

The Recording Technology certificate offers an option to the individual who has a strong interest in music as well as an interest in the fundamentals of live audio, electronic music and recording technology.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon complete of the Recording Technology certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Explain basic sound theory and principles of audio manipulation.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to identify and operate music technology tools, such as digital audio workstations (DAWs), MIDI controllers, and audio interfaces.
  3. Describe different types of microphones, explain their design features, and determine appropriate placement techniques for recording various instruments.
  4. Perform essential multi-track recording tasks, including capturing, editing, and organizing audio tracks within a DAW.
  5. Apply basic signal processing techniques—such as equalization (EQ), compression, and audio effects—to enhance recorded sound.
  6. Create original sound designs using recorded audio, synthesis, sampling techniques, virtual instruments, and MIDI sequencing tools.
  7. Understand the principles of live production, including how to operate audio, video, and lighting systems effectively in a worship environment.
  8. Students will be able to communicate effectively with both tech and worship teams to support service flow.
  9. Design and implement audio-visual elements that enhance the worship experience, using lighting effects, sound reinforcement, and video broadcasting tools.
