Evangel’s theatre programs incorporate performance skills, theatre history, dramatic interpretation, and appreciation of dramatic literature to ensure vocational success. Professors have real-world performing arts experience and offer one-on-one training to foster students’ specific areas of theatre interest. Students will develop a foundational understanding of principles of directing, improvisation, method acting, and play production
Those graduating with a major in Theatre will be able to:
- Demonstrate familiarity with commonly recognized periods and traditions in the broad sweep of theatrical history.
- Utilize technical elements necessary to mount a stage production including scenic design, lighting, costuming, makeup, stage management, and construction.
- Demonstrate effective use of the actor’s imagination and physical resources to develop a compelling character for the stage.
- Direct a series of scenes or one-act play encompassing the elements of script analysis, blocking, casting and coaching actors.
- Perform satisfactorily as an ensemble member on the theatrical stage.
- Identify and articulate the holistic (spiritual and humane) aspects of the theatrical arts in performance and/or experience.
